painting

Have you noticed a change of the blog? I've been working on it here and there a little each day. As you may have noticed I've put up a third column, and a new banner. You like?

Some of you asked which coasters were my favorite from the last post. I'd have to say Sara's from "girlscantell" are my most favorite. Probably because I'm in love with my Kitchenaid mixer like you wouldn't believe. I want to take photos of it and frame them. I actually was thinking about doing a painting of it for the kitchen. Which brings me to the point of today's post.

We have a nice big blank spot on our wall in the dining area. I have been wanting to find something to put there. Maybe a poster sized print or something. On my trip to the art store yesterday I bought a 24"x36" canvas, a little bigger than poster sized.

I got it home and was itching to start painting it. When I was in high school all I ever did was paint. I did a little sculpting in high school, but not like I do now. Sculpting didn't come til later. Painting was my forté. Tim suggested I do a painting in the style I used to, with a collage technique. So I got out my old books and started tearing out pages, layering and adhering them to the canvas surface.

That took up a good amount of time. By the time I was done layering the papers, someone was requesting that I bake some cookies. I baked some cookies and by the time I was done cleaning the kitchen I was ready for bed. Went and laid in bed, but couldn't fall asleep. So I got up and started to paint.
I got really messy in between this photo and the next. I used a roller to roll the paint on for a different technique. This is all just going to be the background. I have a few ideas of what I want to paint as the focal piece, but I need to sketch them out before I mess up the background. I know I want to paint something feathery.
I want to hang it up on the wall as soon as I can, but I also need to take it slow and put some time and effort into it. I'll be back to update you on my sketches and work in progress with it. Hope you are all enjoying the weekend!
